Training schedule – youth hockey

The children should always be coached according to their age. Therefore the length of time and the contents of the training are made to fit the respective age groups. The following schedule shows the basic principles regarding contents and length of time which we target for the individual age groups.

U6 (5-6 years)
General physical training with playful elements. Having fun in physical exercise and building a good basic sense of coordination. First contact with the hockey stick.

U8 (7-8 years)
The U6 training is extended to include the most basic hockey techniques.

U10 (9-10 years)
Emphasis is still on good coordination. The hockey techniques from U8 are extended and consolidated. Introduction of first basic strategic elements.

U12 (11-12 years)
Careful introduction to competitive sports. The athletic training is still important, gentle muscle stabilisation training, the specific hockey training becomes more important. Basic strategic elements are intensified.

U14 (13-14 years)
Keeping up the technical and athletic training and introducing more strategic elements.
|
U16 (15-16 years)
Introduction to competitive sports. Athletic focus on endurance, speed and gentle strength training. Refining of individual hockey techniques as well as strategic elements.

U18 (17-18 years)
Introduction to competitive sports. Athletic focus on endurance. Some play already in the ladies and men’s teams. The strategic training is intensified, specialisation on individual positions. Athletic training remains a focal point.
