History

 

 A short history of the hockey & tennis department at Rheydter Spielverein e.V.

1905
Rheydter Spielverein (RSV) was founded as a soccer club.    

1912
The hockey and tennis department was founded and remained active until the   beginning of Second World War during which sports activities were suspended.

1956
Pupils of Hugo-Junkers-Gymnasium brought new life to the hockey department.

1959
18-year-old Bernd Gothe became president of the department, a position he has held ever since!

1963
The tennis department was re-constituted resulting in a considerable increase in members. At the same time members of the hockey & tennis department built their own club house.

1973
In 1973 the 1st Men’s Hockey Team played in the Second Division and nearly reached the West German Premier Division.

1978
The A boys (age 13/14) won the German Field Hockey Championship (among them Uli Mayer, later captain of RSV’s Premier Division team).

1983
Ottima Mayer was awarded the paul rheinberg medal of Deutscher Hockey-Bund for groundbreaking work in hockey for the mentally challenged.    

1986
After 13 years with GHTC Wolfgang Mayer (6 international matches/German Champion 1981) returned to RSV in order to become player-coach.

1994
After 15 years with GHTC Alexander Trueson (German Champion 1991) returned to RSV, first as player, later as coach.

1995
Klaus Peltzer was appointed FIH umpire and since then has served as umpire in matches all over the world.

 

1996
With their coach Alexander Trueson the 1st Men’s Hockey Team went up to the 3rd division. In the autumn of the same year Uli Mayer (45 international matches, six times German Champion and six times EuroHockey Club Champions Cup winner) returned to RSV after 7 years with GHTC and 8 years with Rot-Weiss Cologne.

1997
Alexander Trueson’s 1st Men’s Hockey Team sensationally and undefeated went up to the Second Division.

1998
Herbert Zangerle, one of the most distinguished and best German hockey coaches, was appointed coach of the 1st Men’s Team.

1998
Finally RSV got its artificial grass pitch. The pitch at Grenzland Stadium is among the most state-of-the-art pitches in Germany .   

1999
Promotion to Premier Division with coach Herbert Zangerle.

1999
For the first time RSV’s hockey and tennis department hosted an international women’s match. Getting even after the EuroHockey Nations Championship Finals in August, Germany beat the Netherlands 3:0.

The 1st Men’s Team was voted sports team of year in the city of Mönchengladbach .

2000
In the indoor hockey season the team went up to the Second Division.

2000
RSV was the first club in 9 years that managed to remain in Premier Division after promotion.

2001
German Cup Winner 2001
3:2 triumph against Club an der Alster in Hamburg

2002
EuroHockey Cup Winners Cup in Eindhoven : 3rd rank

2002
1st Men’s Team relegated from Premier Division

(The German Men’s Team won the World Championship)

2004
(The German Women’s Team won the Olympic gold medal in Athens

2005
1st Women’s Team down from 4th Division to 5th Division

1st Men’s Team relegated from Second Indoor Hockey Division

2006
1st Women’s Team promoted to 4th Division

(The German Women’s Team won the Champions Trophy)

(The German Men’s Team won the BDO Hockey World Cup at Warsteiner Hockeypark in Mönchengladbach)

2007         Promotion of 1st Men’s Team to Second Indoor Hockey Division with coach André Schiefer

          (The German Men’s Team won the Indoor Hockey World Cup 

1st Women’s Team down from 4th Division to 5th Division

           (The German Women’s Team wins EuroHockey Nations Championship)

2008
              (The German Men’s Team won the Olympic gold medal in
               Peking)

2009        Promotion of 1st Men’s Team to first Field Hockey Division
              with coach André Schiefer

2010       1st Men’s Team relegated from Indoor Premier Division
